Does social media have the power to influence people's perceptions and to create innovative change?

Social media, the sharing economy, and online commerce have all fundamentally changed how value is communicated, perceived and transacted. People have become more digitally connected, and in this new age of social media, individuals are able to participate in far-reaching conversations instantly and simply. Now as people discover annoying experiences they are able to share their frustrations. If innovation evolves where a gap is identified, then for the more entrepreneurial, listening to poor user experiences can help create opportunities that can be used to drive innovation.

Every couple of weeks I ask for comments and thoughts about social media marketing, and this is a recent topic of interest. For previous topics have a look at #SocialMediaMarketing.

  • Yepp, definitely.
  • Social media listening can lead to insights if done in an intelligent fashion, in fact, it is one of the things we are doing.
  • I'm sure that social networks can help us to popularize and advertise new products, but unsure if social media can affect the creation of something innovative.
  • Social media is a two way conversation, you have to listen to learn.

Do you agree?
